I am a manager! What does my team expect of me?
September 15, 2017
In a company, whether it is in the field of logistics or another area, there are operating rules and tasks to do for each position. Respecting these rules and tasks is as much necessary that it has an influence on the performance of any company. That’s where a manager comes in. He makes sure that everything is respected and makes sure that the company is on a good track.
A team manager or a company manager has also his tasks well-defined according to the field of activity of the company. We are all tempted by this position but becoming a manager is not as easy as we think.
Indeed, managing a team of several persons with different paths requires sometimes pedagogy and sometimes firmness. For some people, explaining well the work to do by finding the right words is sufficient to motivate them and obtain from them the maximum energy that is necessary to do their job. More is needed for others.
In both cases, a team needs its manager and the manager needs also his team for the company to continue to develop. A manager should take this into account to build a cohesive team:
A manager who supports his team
Any manager would like to have a team of workers who succeed in properly doing their tasks without too many difficulties. This is not often the case because companies are in a competitive environment that can change at any time. Companies must adapt to the changes and the workers too.
In order to help a team of workers to continue to do their tasks and overcome the difficulties, a manager should be available as much as possible when his team needs support. The work to do varies from one job to another. Having a manager who knows and understands the difficulties of his team and helps find solutions is beneficial for the entire company.
A manager who is listening
The support could begin by listening to those who are in need of it. We all have plenty of things to do outside of work. The difficulties that we face are directly or indirectly related to the work to do in the company. A manager, who is listening knows about it and can propose solutions with or without the people that are concerned.
Listening requires time and mutual trust. Learning how to listen is what we should do achieve it. At the end, the company will have more to gain if the difficulties are known upstream and resolved as quickly as possible.
