How do I challenge my competitors? Here is one simple advice!
November 06, 2017
As an owner of a small business in which there is one or many people, you are familiar with these words: market, product, service, customers, competitors, sellers and so on. Among these words, there is one you may be afraid of. You can be afraid even by only pronouncing it. You try all your best to avoid it but in fact you can’t. If you are still reading, you already know what I am talking about. I am talking about the word “competitors”.
You surely agree with me to say that it is difficult to avoid competitors. They are around and will almost always be around your business. In this situation, you can at least try to challenge them in such a way that your business keeps growing. If I were you, I will not stop looking for the best answer of “how do I challenge my competitors?”

You may think of having a close eye on your competitors by trying to know from time to time whether they are behind or at the same level with you mainly if they are doing the same thing you do. That’s not what you should be doing because you will be tired of always comparing what they are doing with your products or services. I understand that you don’t want to have them at all or you want them to be behind if you have no other choice.
But what you are missing is that there will come a day you will realize that your competitors are not behind and they are not at your level. In fact, they are way in front and that you are the one who is left behind. So will you change that strategy of keeping a close eye on them and have a focus on something else or not? If you really want to stay in market, you would change that strategy and try to find like me, the best answer of this same question:
How do I challenge my competitors?

In order to answer to this question, always remember that even if you are the first in a new market because you created it, you will end up having competitors. It is just a matter of time. Read this post to find out more about what happened when SLACK got its new competitor MICROSOFT.
Slack took out a full-page ad in the New York Times to welcome its new competitor, Microsoft.
People usually like competition and if they see that you are doing something that is working, they will tell to themselves: “If this guy can make it why not me?” That’s holds a truth mainly if there is a lot to gain by doing the same thing you are doing.
Now that you know, you will almost always have competitors, there is a simple advice that will help you challenge them and at the same time make sure that your business is growing. Here is it:
Stay focused on your business and keep moving forward step after step
This advice is simple but implementing is not as easy as you can think. Nowadays, many people can’t simply stay focused. The mean reason is this:
They try to do many things at the same time.
The best example is that you are likely to be one of those who clicked on the above link and went through it instead of finishing this post. If you didn’t do it this time, you surely did it when reading another post.
When it comes to business, you may go that way by doing many things at the same time. It means that you work hard on creating a product or a service after spending a lot of time in learning and doing research. The product launch comes next when finally everything is ready. You try to be in charge of it too. Then you make sure that the promotion or marketing is doing well. It will be great if you succeed in handling all of these activities. But do you think that you are going to have the best results for each of these activities?
But way a minute! How about competitors, customers, clients, providers and so on? Are you the one who is also going to be in charge of all those people?
As you can see, it is really not easy for some people to stay focused. For you not to be one of them and successfully challenge your competitors, you should try to follow these steps:

By following these steps, you may not beat your competitors but you will challenge them because they will realize that you definitively master what you are doing. Your results will prove that you keep moving forward step after step. And some of their clients or customers will come to buy your products because you know why to treat a client well, as written in this post:
3 unavoidable reasons to treat your client like a KING
And the interesting part of it is that, your competitors will start worrying about you and they will start having a close eye on you. Do you remember? We already talked about that strategy.
Here is your turn: Do you have a strategy that allows you to challenge your competitors? Thank you for sharing your story on this topic.
Hello Vincent,
Great tips over here 🙂
Indeed what ever we do, we have competitors all around and if we want to create a win win situation for us then we should
know how to eliminate our competition.
Indeed taking a thorough study of our competitors and how their product is not able to satisfied the customers needs and
adding that things in our product can really boost our services and once people start to come to us then we only need to
watch for other who can get ahead of us.
Also when one is on the top, he should never be relaxing as in this hybrid world, a competition can be over come with any
place, it can challenge us so its better to keep adding the spices in our products so that people stay closed to us.
Thanks for the share.
Shantanu.
Hi Shantanu,
I am happy to read through your lines. Thank you for your comment.
We really make a difference in terms of customer acquisition if we add to our products what our competitors are not offering or not doing well. That’s where focusing on our business and trying to be the best in what we are doing, comes in.
As you know, if we are better than our competitors and if our services match the needs of the customers, we will not only challenge our competitors but we will simply eliminate them sooner or later. Customers will keep purchasing our products instead of theirs.
I agree with you. Taking a thorough study of our competitors is needed. And we just don’t have to be happy with knowing whether they are behind or in front. We should find the reasons that put them in these places and take these reasons into account to come up with something that makes all the difference.
Once again, thank you very much Shantanu for your contribution and have a great day.
